God has a heart for the world. We see it in the diversity of culture, in the way that Christ spent His years on earth reaching out to more than just the Jews around Him, in the recurrent theme throughout Scripture that God’s glory must be known throughout the earth. We have also seen it in the faces of Kenyan children as Stephanie grew up among a people who would face and are facing the ravages of disease and poverty, and among the people of Latin America, where Brian began to make visits with his parents when he was just a kid. We believe that having a heart for God means having a heart for this world that we live in. And through prayer we have felt the Lord’s call on our lives to go into this world in His name, as our small part in living out the love of our God for this earth. When we first met at John Brown University as Freshmen, thanks to our moms connection from going to boarding school together in Guatemala, we had no idea where God’s plans would eventually take us. Though we both knew we wanted to go into long term missions, we had also each decided not to date anyone our Freshman year. And we didn’t. But God’s plans for our lives together had just begun, and the summer after finishing university we began dating.
Steph began medical school in Dallas that fall (2003), while Brian began preparations to go as a missionary to Latin America. Brian had been involved with the ministry in Costa Rica since High School, and God had put the ministry of youth discipleship on his heart. When he found that the mission there had just been able to buy a new piece of land to serve as a campus, Brian felt God’s clear call to go and help with the development of the new Multiplication Center.
After getting married in April 2006 and Stephanie finished her 3rd year of medical school, we followed God’s call for us to go back to Costa Rica to serve for one more year. After our year together in Costa Rica we returned to Dallas so that Stephanie could complete her fourth year of medical school and then begin residency. Stephanie graduated from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in May of 2008 and we moved to Waco, Tx where Stephanie began her 3 year residency training program as a Family Medicine doctor. Brian continues his work with International Teams and the ministry in Costa Rica from Waco, Tx making frequent trips to work on projects at the Multiplication Center. In addition to the many projects at the campus he has been providing missionary care to the many Latinos that have already been sent to other parts of the world to share the Gospel and make disciples.
